About Fruugalist

Who we are

The Fruugalist is a project launched by two Denver families who were feeling the effects of a new financial reality. We wanted to do something pro-active to counter all the bad news, and we decided to use our skills to create a daily email conversation about ways to be positive and improve your quality of life while spending less money. We are:

Evelyn Wilder came up with this hare-brained idea. She is a graphic and web designer who had a little lull in her freelance business at the start of the year and said “Hey, why don’t we write something about all the new ways we’ve learned to save money lately?”

Scott Wilder is the sanity checker and our in-house sustainability consultant.

Scott Yates contributes his unique sense of humor, journalistic writing skills and knowledge of media to the Fruugalist.

Kathy Yates has a formidable business mind and impeccable taste. She makes sure we look good and behave ourselves.

Our Philosophy

The world economic situation is, at best, discouraging. Some of us are trying hard not to freak out.

Clearly we are changing the way we think about spending money and what we value.

In these times it is important to remain positive and make the best we can out of the new reality, not only monetarily but emotionally, socially, and spiritually. In that light we created The Fruugalist as a place to post and discuss ideas about saving money and sanity and perhaps come out the other side in a better place. We’d even go so far as to say that this situation is a much-needed opportunity to make our country a healthier and more stable place to live.

Each day of the week will have a different, general theme:

Monday is “work” - having to do with how we earn a living
Tuesday is “live” - a broad topic covering home, family, and everything that doesn’t fit elsewhere
Wednesday is “body” - things related to your health and beauty
Thursday is “eat” - food and drink, of course
Friday is “play” - fun stuff we do in our free time

Check us out each day and let us know how we’re doing. If the newsletter doesn’t look right, let us know. If it doesn’t sound right, let us know. And for all you already-frugal geniuses out there, send us your frugal suggestions!
